USI’s Porter gets 100th victory

The University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team wasted no time getting Head Coach Keely Porter her 100th victory by defeating Lewis University, 7-2, in Romeoville, Illinois, Friday afternoon. USI takes its record to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Porter has been at the helm of the USI women’s program since 1991 and has accumulated a record of 100-61 (.621). She also has the USI women’s tennis in the spotlight the Midwest Region, posting a record of 31-7 overall and 17-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference the last two seasons. In the spring of 2002, Porter led USI to its first regional ranking.
With the win over Lewis, the Eagles are off to a good start in the GLVC. USI has placed second in the league each of the past two seasons, losing only to Northern Kentucky University in the championship match.
The Eagles will resume their road trip on Saturday when they play Saint Joseph’s College in a 9 a.m. match in Rensselaer, Indiana. The first USI home match will not be until Tuesday, September 17, when it hosts Kentucky Wesleyan College.
