Bartelt decides to join USI
The University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team announced the signing of Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) to a letter of intent for the 2003-04 season. Bartelt is the first player to sign with USI Head Coach Keely Porter this fall.
Bartelt is a senior at Jasper High School where she has lettered the last three years in women’s tennis. She was named to the All-Big 8 Conference team each of the last three years and was honorable mention All-State in doubles in 200 and in singles in 2002.
The Jasper, Indiana, native has helped lead Jasper High School to three-straight IHSAA sectional and regional championships. JHS advanced to the IHSAA State Finals in 2002.
In state amateur tennis, Bartelt was ranked seventh in the 2001 Central Indiana Tennis Association Junior Rankings.
“I am very pleased that Audra will be joining our program,” said Porter. “Coming from Jasper High School, she is used to working hard and has developed a good feel for team play.
I anticipate that Audra will play in the top three for us in singles,” continued Porter. “We also are looking forward to help her develop her doubles game.”
The Screaming Eagles finished tied for third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament this past fall. USI, which was the number two seed in the GLVC Tournament, had a record of 10-2 overall, 8-1 in conference regular season action.
