USI women’s tennis puts three on All-GLVC team
Wilhoite named Freshman of the Year
INDIANAPOLIS, IN–University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis freshman Sara Wilhoite (Connersville, Indiana) was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year and leads three Screaming Eagles onto the GLVC All-Conference team Friday. Wilhoite was joined on the team by junior Ashley Rees (Vincennes, Indiana) and freshman Reilly Ackerman (Allendale, Illinois).
This is the most All-GLVC performers on a single USI team since the league coaches began voting for the awards in 1995.
Wilhoite, who becomes USI’s third Freshman of the Year since the 1999-2000 season, leads the Eagles into the GLVC Tournament Friday as the team’s number one singles player. She is 9-6 overall as a freshman, but has posted a 7-2 GLVC record.
Rees, who was the GLVC Freshman of the Year in 2002-03, was named to the All-GLVC team for the third time. She is 9-3 overall at number two singles and has a 7-1 mark in the GLVC.
Rees and Wilhoite have combined this year as USI’s number one doubles team. They have posted an 8-3 overall record and are 7-1 in GLVC action.
Ackerman has stepped into the number three singles slot in 2004 and has recorded a 9-5 overall record, 7-2 in the GLVC. She also has combined with her senior sister, Kalie, at number three doubles to produce a 5-4 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the GLVC.
