Eagles lose on the road to Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team lost a heartbreaker at Rockhurst University Friday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri. USI falls to 1-2 overall and in the GLVC, while Rockhurst goes to 1-0 overall and in the GLVC.
The deciding match was number six singles. Freshman Leslie-Anne Eades (Evansville, Indiana) lost by default, retiring due to illness. She lost the first set 6-0 and was down 3-0 in the second set when she retired.
The Eagles led 2-1 after the doubles matches. USI senior Ashley Reesv (Vincennes, Indiana) and junior Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) won at number one doubles, 8-6, while sophomores Reilly Ackerman (Allendale, Illinois) and Maggie Coffman (Sellersburg, Indiana) won at number two, 8-4.
In singles, Rees and senior Cassy Froderman (Brazil, Indiana) won in straight sets at number two and four singles. Rees won her match, 6-3 and 6-1, while Froderman posted a pair of 6-3 victories.
The Eagles resume action Saturday morning in Springfield, Missouri, when they play Drury University in a 9 a.m. match.
