Screaming Eagles fall to Panthers

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team could not get on track Saturday morning at Drury University, falling 8-1, in Springfield, Missouri. USI falls to 1-3 overall and in the GLVC, while Drury goes to 2-0 in 2005 and in the league.

The Panthers put the Eagles in a hole to start the dual match, winning all three of the doubles matches. Drury continued to its dominance in the singles matches, clinching the win with straight-set victories at number one, two, and five singles.

Leslie-Anne Eades

Freshman Leslie-Anne Eades (Evansville, Indiana) picked up her first victory as a collegiate, defeating Jernine Carter at number six singles 1-6, 6-2, and 10-8 in the super tie-breaker. Junior Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) and senior Cassy Froderman (Brazil, Indiana) lost close matches at number three and four in super tie-breakers.

USI will continue conference action Wednesday on the road at Kentucky Wesleyan College for a 4 p.m. match. The Eagles will not play at home until September 30 when they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
