USI has impressive appearance at GLVC Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team recorded four seconds and four thirds at the GLVC Individual Invitational to begin the 2006-07 season. The invitational was hosted by the University of Indianapolis.

Senior
Kimberly Decker (Brownsburg, Indiana) took second in singles' flight number two, losing in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) to Bellarmine's Sarah Roebker. Decker had advanced to the championship match by winning two straight tie-breaker matches, defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College's Jennifer Settle (6-1, 3-6, 10-7) and Southern Illinios University Edwardsville's Kelsey Laird (7-5, 2-6, 10-4).
Freshman
Gretchen Cantwell (Vincennes, Indiana) and freshman
Ashley Hashem (Auburn, New Hampshire) also needed a tie-breaker to advance to the finals in singles' flight number three and six. Cantwell fell to Indianapolis' Jeannie Hartley in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) after needing the tie-breaker to defeat Indianapolis' Kristen Volz (6-3, 6-7 (2), 10-3) in the second round. She won her first collegiate match in straight sets over KWC's Jamie Key (6-0, 6-2) to begin the tournament.
Hashem advanced to the flight number six finals by winning her first collegiate match over Bellarmine University's Jade Best with a tie-breaker (6-4, 5-7, 10-2). She won her second round match against KWC's Katie Cecil in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) before losing in the finals to Indianapolis' Lindsey Loffer in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
Eagles' junior
Maggie Coffman (Sellersburg, Indiana) rounded out USI's second place finishers, falling to Indianapolis' Aly Neidlinger in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) in flight number 5. Coffman had reached the finals after defeating Northern Kentucky University's Heather Robertson (6-0, 6-2) and SIUE's Marley Coghlan (6-4, 6-1) in straight sets.
The Eagles are received a third place showings in singles from freshmen
Katie Clagg (Terre Haute, Indiana) in flight number three and
Kyla Dorsett (Columbus, Indiana) in flight number six. Senior
Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) finished fourth in flight number one.
In doubles, USI had a pair of third place finishers in Coffman and Clagg in flight number two and sophomore
Emily Schum (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) and Hashem in flight number three. Bartelt and Decker withdrew from the third place match in flight number one due to an injury to Bartelt.
