USI gets win over Northwood of Florida
EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team broke a two-match losing streak with a 5-4 victory over Northwood University of Florida Tuesday in West Palm Beach, Florida. USI raises its record to 2-3 overall, while Northwood falls to 3-3.
The Eagles started the match with three straight wins. Senior Audra Bartelt (Jasper, Indiana) and freshman Katie Jo Clagg (Terre Haute, Indiana) posted a 9-7 win at number one doubles, while seniors Maggie Coffman (Sellersburg, Indiana) and Kim Decker (Brownsburg, Indiana) at number two doubles and freshmen Gretchen Cantwell (Vincennes, Indiana) and Kyla Dorsett (Columbus, Indiana) at number three had identical 8-3 wins.
In singles, Northwood closed the gap and took a 4-3 lead. The Eagles came back for the victory when Bartelt won at number two singles when NU's Natalia Dono retired and Cantwell posted a straight set victory at number four singles.
The Eagles conclude the road trip Wednesday when they play Lehigh University in a neutral site match in Melbourne, Florida.
