Ackerman and Girgenti lead USI in Aces Classic

EVANSVILLE, Ind. University of Southern Indiana junior Reilly Ackerman (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) and freshman Michelle Girgenti (Greenwood, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles in the Aces Fall Classic with a third place finish in the A Flight Doubles. The tournament was hosted by the University of Evansville.
Ackerman and Girgenti advanced to the third place match after splitting their first two matches. They won their opening match with a victory over Western Kentucky University's Brittany Weiz and Carrie True before fall to Evansville' Sara Wilhoite and Lisa Kawamoto.
The pair earned the third place showing with victory over Morehead State University's Meg Rozboril and Heather Butt.
Also in doubles, sophomore Gretchen Cantwell (Vincennes, Indiana) and freshman Jennie LaBonte (Indianapolis, Indiana) won the B Flight Doubles consolation championship with a win over Austin Peay State University's Morgan Klieber and Alex Pyle. The pair lost an opening round match to MSU's Catherine Butts and Alexandra Rydberg before winning a consolation semifinal match against APSU's Brittany Hays and Laura Gonzalez to advance the consolation championship match.
The next action for the Eagles is Austin Peay State University Invitational September 29-30 in Clarksville, Tennessee.
