Eagles grounded by cross-town Aces
EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team stumbled against cross-town rival University of Evansville, 6-1, Sunday on the UE campus. USI falls to 0-6 overall, while the Aces to 8-5 in 2007-08.
The Aces started the match by winning the doubles points by sweeping all three contests.
The Screaming Eagles got onto the scoreboard when freshman Jennie LaBonte (Indianapolis, Indiana) defeated UE's Susan Elliott in a third set super tie-breaker (6-3, 6-7, 10-8). USI came close to taking a second singles' match when sophomore Katie Jo Clagg (Terre Haute, Indiana) lost to the Aces' Stephanie Mills in a super tie-breaker.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday when they host Indiana University Southeast for their home opener at the USI Tennis Courts. Match time is 5 p.m.
