USI women's tennis gets a third Ackerman
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team announced the signing of Logan Ackerman to a national letter of intent for the 2008-09 season. Ackerman is the first newcomer to sign with USI women's tennis and Head Coach Keely Porter this spring.
The native of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, will join her sister Reilly on the Screaming Eagles next season and follows in the footsteps of Kalie, who was a four-year USI tennis player and graduated in 2005.
Ackerman becomes an Eagle after helping the Mt. Carmel High School Lady Aces to a 50-0 record during her four-year prep career and the 2007 sectional title. She won the sectional singles championship the last two seasons, was a four-year IHSA state tournament qualifier, and was undefeated in dual matches during the last two seasons.
In amateur tennis, Ackerman was a five-year member of the Wightman Cup Team and was the number one player in the Southern Illinois District of the Illinois Tennis Association. She also was the 2007 Outstanding Junior Female Player of the Year.
"I'm very happy to have the third Ackerman sister play for me at USI," said Porter. "Logan has had an extremely successful high school career and I look forward to helping her continue developing her tennis.
"I truly appreciate the opportunity Kalie, Reilly, and Logan have created for themselves in experiencing college and tennis together," concluded Porter.
USI concluded the 2007-08 campaign in the first round of the GLVC Tournament and with a 5-13 overall record, 5-6 in the GLVC.
