Ackerman advances before dropping out in third round

MIDLAND, Mich. -- University of Southern Indiana senior
Reilly Ackerman (Mt. Carmel, Indiana) advanced to the third round of the ITA Great Lakes Championship before bowing out Saturday in Midland, Michigan. The ITA Regional was hosted by Northwood University in Midland.
Ackerman started the tournament with a straight set victory (6-0, 6-2) over Michigan Tech University's Caitlin Hartley and advanced to third round with a tie-breaker win over Ferris State University's Natalie Dioro (6-2, 0-6, 10-7).
The USI senior bowed out of the tournament in a straight set loss (6-0, 6-0) to Northwood's Darina Berkova, the top seed in the tournament.
In addition to Ackerman, sophomore
Michelle Girgenti (Greenwood, Indiana) posted a win in the first round. Girgenti came back to defeat Wayne State University's Milena Vksanovic with the help of a tie-breaker (4-6, 6-1, 10-6) after losing the first set.
The USI sophomore would lose in the second round to Grand Valley State University's Daylann Trout in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).
In doubles, Ackerman and Girgenti posted a first round victoryover WSU's Sargam Bhatt and Meghan Luzod, 9-8. The pair would bow out in the second round with an 8-3 loss to GVSU's Audrey Koopsen and Jamie Oppenlander.
The next action for the Eagles is September 26-27 in the Aces Classic, hosted by the University of Evansville.
