Eagles fall to 0-4 after tough start to spring slate

MOREHEAD, Ky.The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team lost its first three matches of the spring season this weekend to fall to 0-4 on the 2008-09 campaign.

USI fell to the University of Charleston (W.V.), 8-1, to begin the weekend Saturday morning, then lost a tough 7-0 decision to Division I Morehead State University Saturday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles completed the weekend with a 7-2 setback to West Virginia State University Sunday morning.

Gretchen Cantwell

Junior Gretchen Cantwell (Vincennes, Indiana) picked up a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory at number three singles against West Virginia State after teaming up with fellow classmate Katie Jo Clagg (Terre Haute, Indiana) earlier in the match for an 8-6 win at number two doubles.

Senior Reilly Ackerman (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) and sophomore Michelle Girgenti (Greenwood, Indiana) teamed up for an 8-6 victory at number one doubles against Charleston.

USI returns to action March 10 when it visits the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida. Match time is slated to begin at 1 p.m. (CDT).
