Adams State claims seventh straight women’s title,
Seattle Pacific’s Jessica Pixler claims third
straight individual title

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Adams State College claimed its seventh consecutive
NCAA Division II Women’s Cross Country Championship Saturday.
The Grizzlies, who entered the meet as the fourth-ranked team in the U.S.
Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 Poll, finished
with 73 points to edge top-ranked Grand Valley State University, which
finished second with 81 points.
Adams State was led by the top 15 finishes of freshman Alicia Nelson and
senior Vanessa Roy, who finished ninth and 13th, respectively. Junior Ashley
Quintana finished 20th overall for the Grizzlies, who won their 15th
national championship at the Division II level.
Seattle Pacific University’s Jessica Pixler won individual title with a 6k
time of 20 minutes, 22.60 seconds, marking the third straight year that the
senior from Sammamish, Washington, has won the national championship.
Pixler’s Falcons finished fourth overall with 104 points, trailing
second-ranked Missouri Southern State University, which finished third with
104 points behind the top-five finishes of junior Ashley Siler and senior
Kimi Shank. Siler was third overall with a time of 20 minutes, 43.60
seconds, while Shank finished fourth with a time of 20 minutes, 44.5
seconds.
Western Washington University junior Sarah Porter finished second overall
with a time of 20 minutes, 30.10 seconds, while University of Southern
Indiana senior Mary Ballinger rounded out the top-five finishers with a
fifth-place effort. Western Washington finished eighth as a team, while
Southern Indiana, the host school for this year’s championship, finished
12th overall.
Rounding out the top five teams was the University of Alaska-Anchorage,
which finished with 158 points. California State University-Chico and the
University of Minnesota-Duluth were sixth and seventh, respectively, while
Western State College and the University of Tampa rounded out the top 10.
Minnesota-Duluth sophomore Morgan Place and California State University-Los
Angeles senior Vivien Wadeck were sixth and seventh, respectively, while
Millersville University senior Prciscilla Jennings and Colorado School of
Mines senior Sydney Laws finished eighth and 10th, respectively.
