What are you currently working on in terms of research? What are the questions you are trying to answer?
My current research involves the study of organometallic catalysts. Both computational/theoretical and synthesis work is included. Transition metal based organometallic complexes can function as catalysts in a wide range of applications.
One area of interest involves the study of homogeneous polymerization catalysts. Computational studies are used to investigate the electronic properties, molecular orbitals, of known catalysts in order to understand how they function. This understanding allows the prediction of new catalysts that can produce polymer products faster.
A recent area of interest involves a unique iridium “pincer” complex that serves as a dehydrogenation catalysts of alkanes. This project is a collaboration effort with Dr. Craig Jensen at the University of Hawaii. Computational efforts are underway to fine tune this complex to serve as a means for hydrogen fuel storage as well as a new system for the production of aromatics and alpha olefins, both industrially important molecules.
