John L. Deem, associate vice president for Student Affairs and assistant professor of accounting holds the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, 1966 and Master of Business Administration, 1967, both from Murray State University.  John has been at USI for nearly 40 years, and has served as an instructor in business; Registrar and director of Veterans' Affairs; assistant vice president for Student Affairs; assistant vice president for Academic Affairs and as acting vice president for Student Affairs.  Email:

The associate vice president for Student Affairs assists the vice president in areas of general Student Affairs administration and provides direction and supervision for the following units:  Counseling Center; Dean of Students (Intramural and Recreational Sports; Multicultural Center; Religious Life; Student Fitness Center; Student Health Center; Student Publications; Student Wellness); Registrar and director of Veterans' Affairs; Student Development Programs.

Melissa S. Burch '96, senior administrative associate, Bachelor of Arts in Art from USI.  Melissa provides daily administrative support for the office and other campus departments as well as works closely with the Administrative Appeals Committee, Student Affairs Staff Development Committee, and Vice President for Programming Grant program.
