Show Me the Money!
Every group needs money for something. Whether you are putting on a
campus-wide event, doing a service project, or just want money to buy food for
all of your meetings, you need to raise funds. Then, once your group
earns some money, you need to store it in a safe place and be able to access
it
easily. Let the Office of Student Development Programs help you with
fundraising and setting up an agency account with USI.
Fundraising
Getting tired of doing car washes to raise money? The Office of Student
Development (UC Room 015) has a binder of different ideas to give your group a
fresh new fundraising program or event. Feel free to stop by the
office anytime to look through the binder or talk with the Program Advisor to
get new ideas.
Grants
If your organization is sponsoring a campus-wide event, you can apply for
grants to help cover the cost of the program. There is one grant designed to help student organizations:
- SGA Student Organization Support (SOS) Grant
This grant is designed for student organizations to develop programs that are open to the entire USI community.
SGA also has a travel grant designed for student organizations as well. If your organization hosts a national conference, you can apply for this grant to help pay for your travel costs.
Agency
Accounts
Registered student organizations at USI may open on-campus financial accounts
called agency accounts. They are basically checking accounts that your
organization sets up with the University. Your group puts in money that
it raised through fundraisers or club dues, and spends it on catering for your
events, printing, copying, equipment rental, rental of University vehicles,
physical plant set-up, and much more.
The Accounting Office can assist you with setting
up an agency account for your organization. The office has
also created a manual for using agency accounts as well.
