What is University Division Advising?   books
We advise students who choose not to declare a major when they enroll at the University, students classified as non-degree seeking or conditionally admitted students.

Students may choose an advisor or have one assigned to them.

University Division Advising houses the OPTIONS Program, a partnership between USI and Ivy Tech, which has three full time advisors and a part time coordinator.

How do University Division advisors help students?
We help students to take classes in which they can be successful and that will help them progress toward their educational goal. Students who have not selected a major may work on completing the University Core Curriculum requirement, a total of fifty credit hours, before declaring a major. Students may begin working on requirements for many majors and minors even though they are still advised in University Division.

person on telephoneWe understand the transitions that students encounter when entering college. We work with students on time management, study skills, problem solving, and career exploration.

Through a one-hour credit course, Freshman Seminar (GENS 101), University Division advisors cover the aforementioned issues along with an introduction to the many unique campus services available to further aid them in their college success.
