University of Southern Indiana

The Applied Engineering Center is a learning factory for students in USI’s engineering, advanced manufacturing and industrial supervision programs, as well as a valuable tool to help support the regional business community. The facility features equipment found nowhere else in the country.

Opened in 2013, the AEC includes the following features:

  • Material processing area with 5-axis waterjet and wire EDM
  • Welding area with MIG and TIG welding
  • Machining area with CNC and manual lathes and mills and heat treating equipment
  • Plastics technology area with injection molding machine and twin screw extruder
  • Automation lab with Festo MPS transfer system, 12-station PLC lab, vision systems and more
  • Precision measuring and CAD lab with CMM machine, laser equipment and 16-station design lab
  • Additive manufacturing and PCB factory, which allows for circuit board printing

Map Selections

Each page on the tour has a view of the site's location on Google Maps, with the option of viewing the full campus on either the USI campus map or in a separate Google Map window.
