The
University of Southern Indiana is pleased to present its first Volunteer
Inspiration Award to Sandi L. Lawrence. This award recognizes an
individual or event for an extraordinary, inspiring service.
In 1998, Sandi founded the Aunt Sophie’s Chicken Noodle Soup Special Event. Named in honor of her favorite aunt, this February tradition provides a healthy meal to select USI athletic teams. A surprise dinner for student athletes who believe they are having a mandatory meeting is coordinated entirely by volunteers. Enough soup is made to send home a quart with each student.
Sandi said she created this event to “help students, provide a healthy meal, and to leave the students with a good memory of USI.” “Plus,” she said, “It sounded like fun.”
