Mary Lou Howard
Volunteer of the Year 1999

For the last six years, Mary Lou has given outstanding service to the USI International Students Club. She brings a high level of passion to her role as a mentor, substitute parent, and teacher. She brings these students into her home to learn how to prepare a meal, sew a garment, and shop economically. Mary Lou is willing to drive these students wherever they need to go -- to the airport, to the nearest Amtrak station in Illinois, or to an appointment. She hosts birthday parties and Christmas dinner for students away from their families. Mary Lou provides one of the most important aspects of life - friendship. She is also a member of the Volunteer USI Advisory Council.
