Frequently Asked Questions

How is the One Admission. Two Universities program different from transferring?

Could I transfer to USI before I finish an associate degree at VU?

I am a General Studies major at Vincennes University.  Can I choose a different major at USI?

What is 2 + 2 articulation?

What is concurrent admission?

How is this different from transferring?
Students who choose this program will have all Vincennes University coursework pre-approved and applied to the corresponding bachelor’s degree program.  Through coursework at VU, more of the USI University Core Curriculum will have been satisfied.  They will have multiple advising contacts with USI faculty prior to the transition to USI.  They will have the opportunity to pre-register for their first semester at USI at the same time as other continuing USI students, which ensures better class selection and scheduling.

Could I transfer to USI before I finish an associate degree at VU?
Yes, but dual admission emphasizes the successful completion of the associate degree.  (See “How is this different from transferring?”) Both institutions agree that the student’s best option is to finish the associate degree before enrolling for classes at USI.

I am a General Studies major at Vincennes University.  Can I choose a different major at USI?
Yes, and it is especially important that you get correct information about USI’s baccalaureate degree(s) you are most interested in.  The USI Advisor will help you in planning the most efficient way to use VU coursework toward a bachelor’s degree from USI.

What is 2 + 2 articulation?
Articulation is defined as the state of being jointed or interrelated.  In higher education, it occurs when separate academic programs at different institutions become “jointed and interrelated” in their stated goals and outcomes.  The faculties at Vincennes University and the University of Southern Indiana have planned their academic programs so that qualified students who complete a VU associate degree program will enter USI at the junior level with a clear path to a bachelor’s degree in a related major.  Completing the associate degree is emphasized as a milestone, and is recognized as an important aspect of articulation.

What is concurrent admission?
Qualified students who pursue concurrent admission will attend Vincennes University and be granted provisional admission to the University of Southern Indiana.  These students will have regular contact with academic units and departments on the USI campus and their academic progress will be monitored.   As these students approach the completion of the associate degree, they will be considered “continuing” students at USI and register as juniors.
