National Student Case Competition sponsored by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)

The USI teams in 2016, 2017 and 2019 placed second as they competed as a final four team in the IMA for the tenth, eleventh and twelfth year, respectively.

In 2015, USI marked its ninth time for a team to be selected as a final four team. The 2015 USI case team not only placed first in the nation, but is only the second university to win the IMA five times. Read about the 2015 team's national championship

Teams of students respond to a case (published in Strategic Finance) by preparing and submitting a videotaped presentation to a panel of judges selected from IMA members. This very exciting competition presents students with real-life challenges and the opportunity to:

  • analyze a case;
  • develop a solution;
  • present it to an audience; and
  • receive recognition for their efforts

Teams must submit a videotaped presentation of their case solution to IMA. Using a blind judging process, a panel of IMA judges selects the top four teams. Those four teams will present their case recommendations at the annual IMA Conference.

2014 Competition
Teams of students responded to a managerial accounting case for Humble Pie, a pie business based in North Carolina, and presented a proposed strategy.

The Screaming Eagles beat out over 200 teams in the first round. In the semi-finals, the Screaming Eagles garnered the most votes from the public with their proposal, earning them $10,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C for the finals, where they finished in third place in the nation!
