Issues with Opioid Use and Prescribing

This continuing education program will explore the opioid epidemic faced by health care professionals and the decisions involved in prescribing opioids.

Target Audience:
All Health Care Providers including dental hygienists, dentists, dental assistants, physicians, APRNs, PAs, nurses, social workers, and other interested health professionals

Course Schedule
8:30–9 a.m. Registration 

9–10:45 a.m. Define the common links between pain, opioids and addiction

10:45–11 a.m. Break

11 a.m.–Noon Treating pain in a simple, safe and effective manner

Noon–12:15 p.m. Questions and Evaluation

In support of improving patient care, the University of Southern Indiana is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the health care team.
Attendees will receive up to 3.0 contact hours specific to opioid abuse and prescribing, unless otherwise specified below, with submission of documentation of sessions attended and completed program evaluation.


The University of Southern Indiana Center for Health Professions Lifelong Learning designates this activity for a maximum of 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Learners should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.


The University of Southern Indiana is an approved provider for CE credits by the Indiana Health
Professions Bureau and the Illinois Board of Dentistry and will provide 3 contact hours for this program.
