This one-day conference will focus on the cutting-edge health information and innovative solutions needed to take healthcare delivery to the next level. Through insightful discussions and engaging presentations, leading experts will share emerging trends in healthcare information technology.
This conference will prepare health professionals to implement effective health informatics strategies in their individual professional practice and their organization. This program will be of interest to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, informaticists, health information technologists, medical practice managers, healthcare managers, health professionals, students and others whose scope of practice is related to health informatics. 

 Presentation General Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts will be reviewed and selected through a blind review process. 
  • The first author will be notified of acceptance by email in mid-June 2019. Correspondence will only be sent to the first author listed.
  • All abstracts must be submitted via the Abstract Submission Form link below.
  • Abstracts must be in English and free of grammatical errors.
  • The abstract text should be limited to 300 words. Subheadings are not included in the word count.
  • All presenters must register for the conference.
  • All presenters are responsible for their own travel, lodging, meals, and conference registration fees.
  • Include the following subheadings:
    • Project description or purpose of study
    • Methodology
    • Results or expected outcomes
    • Implications for the field of health informaticss

Accepted abstracts may be housed and made publicly available online through USI’s Scholarly Open Access Repository (SOAR). During the submission process, authors will have the opportunity to opt in or out of the retention and display of abstracts in SOAR. Opting in grants HITS and the Rice Library a non-exclusive license to distribute abstracts.

 Session Types

Abstract proposals must identify the desired session type. Abstract authors will propose content to fill the entire duration of the session for which they submit. Abstract authors will also coordinate with any presenters they include to determine the structure and format within their session.  View the descriptions below to find out more about each:

Presentations – 60 minutes
Acceptable models for presentations may be an individual or joint presentation.

Panel Discussions – 60 minutes
Panel (4 individuals with one moderator), presentation by several individuals.

Panels may be didactic or interactive. Panel lead will submit the abstract proposal.

Conversation Café Talks
Conversation Café talk proposals should be timely, provocative, and creative addressing a hot topic in health informatics that aligns with the theme of the conference The Time is Now: Enhanced Care with Digital Health Technologies.

The Conversation Café Process (20 min. session): Assemble up to 6 people including host,  and prepare a  hot topic. Host explains process and agreements.

Round 1: Host introduces the topic; each person speaks briefly on the topic, no feedback or response.

Round 2: On the same topic, each person deepens their own comments or speaks to what has meaning now.

Dialogue: Open, spirited conversation about the topic.

Final Round: Each person says briefly what challenged, touched, or inspired them.

 Poster Session – 30 minutes
Maximum of 2 presenters allowed.

Poster sessions will take place during the Poster Session of the conference. During this time, attendees will be able to view the posters and ask presenter questions. Presenters are expected to be at their posters but are not expected to actively present.

Poster presenters are responsible for providing their poster as a self-standing, tri-fold to be displayed on a standard 6 ft. table. The tri-fold must be no more than 3 ft wide when fully opened.
