Maria R. Shirey, PhD, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, ANEF, FACHE, FANP, FAAN

 

The University of Southern Indiana is pleased to welcome Dr. Maria R. Shirey as keynote presenter. Dr. Shirey is the Dean and Fay B. Ireland Endowed Chair in Nursing at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing and serves as the school’s fifth dean in its 70-plus-year history. As the school’s Chief Nurse Administrator, she is the senior executive responsible for the school’s tri-partite mission of academics, research, and service/practice. She serves as Director of the school’s Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Collaborating Centre for International Nursing, a designation the school has maintained for 30 years. Dr. Shirey is a member of the UAB Medicine Enterprise Board of Directors that governs the UAB Hospital and Health System.

In recognition of Dr. Shirey’s career contributions to advancing leadership and health systems science, she was recognized in 2019 with the American Organization for Nursing Leadership’s Nurse Researcher Award.  She is also the recipient of multiple other awards in recognition of her leadership, scholarship, and contributions to nursing education, practice, and research.

Dr. Shirey is a prolific author, editor, and speaker having disseminated her work in over 150 publications and over 200 presentations across the globe. From 2016 to 2022, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Healthcare Quality, a well-regarded international and interprofessional journal dedicated to advancing the art and science of healthcare quality and safety across the care continuum.

About the Program

Following the keynote presentation, concurrent podium and poster sessions will be provided in an environment to disseminate research, evidence-based practice and performance improvement among healthcare disciplines. The attendee will have an opportunity to learn about strategies to improve patient care and health care systems. The learner outcome of this program is to prepare health professionals to implement effective research and evidence-based healthcare strategies and practices in their individual professional practice.

Contact Hours 

CE hours will be available for Nurses, Physicians, Pharmacists, Social Workers, and Health Facility Administrators. CE hours will also be available for Indiana licensed Marriage & Family Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Assistants and Dental professions.

Accreditation Statements

 In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the University of Southern Indiana Center for Health Professions Lifelong Learning (CHPLL). The CHPLL is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

State of Indiana

The University of Southern Indiana is an approved provider of continuing education for several professionals licensed in the state of Indiana, including social workers, marriage and family therapists, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and dental professionals.

$60 for current graduate students
$20 for undergraduate students

Refund Policy

A $25 administrative fee will be charged for cancelled registrations prior to April 10, 2024. No refund will be provided after the date.
