Current and New Residents
In an effort to meet the changing interests and priorities of our students, HRL will be offering additional rate and room type options next year. Read below about all the exciting changes being made to the on campus housing experience.

The 2024-2025 housing contract will be available on the Housing Portal beginning December 1, 2023.

Constant Rate Program
The Constant Rate program means room rates from the first year a student enters to live in USI Housing will apply for up to four years as long as the student continuously lives in USI Housing. If a student cancels the contract and then enters into a contract in the future, the Constant Rate program will not apply. The student will pay the current year’s housing rates.

The new Constant Rate program will begin with students who have an active 2023-2024 housing contract. If students renew for 2024-2025, they will be eligible for the Constant Rate program. 

How does this really work?
Example: Archie lives on campus for 2023-2024 in a 4 person/2 bedroom apartment. Archie completes a contract for 2024-2025 and plans to live in a 2 person/2 bedroom apartment. Archie will pay the 2023-2024 rate for a 2 person/2 bedroom. If Archie chooses to live in a 4 person/2 bedroom apartment for 2024-2025, Archie will pay the 2023-2024 rate for a 4 person/2 bedroom apartment.

New Three Person Rate in McDonald East
The smaller bedroom in McDonald East apartments will be converted to a single bedroom with a full size bed. The rate for this room type will be $3599 per semester.

New Date to Cancel Without Penalty
Students may cancel the contract without penalty by June 1, 2024. Students who cancel by this date will have the $200 prepayment refunded.

New Three Person Option in McDonald East
The smaller bedroom in McDonald East apartments will be converted to a single bedroom with a full size bed. The rate for this room type will be $3599 per semester.

Increased Number of Two Person/Two Bedroom Apartments
Housing and Residence Life will convert a number of buyout spaces in four person/two bedroom apartments to two person/two bedroom apartments with a full size bed. With this conversion there will no longer be a buyout option. Students will not be able to buy out a side in a four person/two bedroom apartment.

Converted Two Person/One Bedroom Apartments to One Person/One Bedroom
The demand for one person/one bedroom apartments has significantly increased. To meet the changing needs of our students, the two person/one bedroom apartments will be converted to one person/one bedroom with a full size bed.



Roommate Group Process
New for 2024-2025 is an expanded profile question section. This will better assist students in finding suitable roommates that best match their habits and interests.

The Roommate Group Process to find potential roommates and to create roommate groups will open in January for current housing residents and in March for new incoming students.

Room Selection Schedule
New schedule for room selection will be implemented for the 2024-2025 academic year. Room selection for returning residents will be in February 2024. Room selection for new students and returners who did not participate in February will be in May 2024.

Waitlist Option
If a student's preferred room type is not available during room selection, the student should assign themselves to a space and then choose the waitlist option for their preferred room type.

Room Changes
After a student chooses a space and completes room selection, they will be able to go back into the room selection module on the Housing Portal and change their room. Deadline to make a room change is July 31.

February Room Selection Important Dates
February 12 - Deadline at 4:30 p.m. to contract to participate in room selection (contracts after this deadline will participate in May room selection).

February 16 - Deadline at 8 a.m. for roommate groups to be completed and invitations accepted. 

February 20 - Email sent with room selection appointment timeslot and instructions.

February 22-23 - Room selection for returners who want to retain same space for next year if available. (no roommate groups allowed)

February 26-27 - Room selection for individual returners and returner roommate groups.

May Room Selection Important Dates
May 6 - Deadline at 4:30 p.m. to contract to participate in room selection.

May 10 – Roommate groups must have been completed and invitations accepted. 

May 13 – Email sent with room selection appointment timeslot and instructions.

May 20-24 – Room selection for individual students and roommate groups.

Any current housing residents who do not participate in February room selection and have a completed housing contract will receive an appointment time for May room selection. 

*Deadline to cancel the 2024-2025 housing contract without penalty is June 1, 2024. A housing contract is for a full academic year (fall and spring semesters).
