The anthropology program at USI includes coursework designed to provide a broad introduction to the discipline. Anthropology complements other scientific and liberal arts courses by helping students understand people and their cultures are interconnected. Students who study anthropology have a wide variety of career options, ranging from the oddly fascinating to the routinely bureaucratic.

Archeology LabWhat is Anthropology?

Anthropology is the study of human behavior. People who work in anthropology study human evolution, archaeology, forensics, language, and human cultures. In short, everything that humans do is part of anthropology.

Anthropology considers such questions as why and how people from distant parts of the world are different and the same, how the human species has evolved over millions of years, and how individuals understand and operate in different cultural settings. Anthropologists are careful observers of humans and their behavior: What does it mean to be human? Why do people behave in particular ways? What are universal facts of human life?
