Robert W. Carithers Scholarships
The Carithers Scholarships in Arts and Humanities are named for a former chair of the USI Society for Arts and Humanities who was instrumental in establishing the awards and whose estate helps to underwrite them.
Currently scholarships are valued at $2,500 per academic year and can be renewed annually provided that specific criteria are met and students make appropriate progress toward graduation. The scholarship is applied directly to student fees for coursework at USI. Application is made in the early spring of the candidate's senior year in high school with review of applications beginning on April 7. The application requires both a letter and an accompanying portfolio. Call 812/464-1855 for more information. (Download brochure >>)
RopeWalk Writers Retreat Scholarships
USI student writers receive a limited number of full and partial scholarships based solely on merit. Visit the RopeWalk Web site for more information.
Student Development Fund
The Student Development Fund provides USI students with financial support to take advantage of educational opportunities in an extra- or co-curricular setting. Funds provide for:
* Registration fees for seminars, workshops, and competitions which enhance student's academic experience
* Admission tickets for theatre performances, art exhibits, musical events, lectures, literary workshops, and other events related to the student's field of study
* Travel expenses to appropriate academic and arts events related to the work of the College of Liberal Arts
* Other expense deemed appropriate by the Student Development Fund Committee
Forms should contain as much information as possible including dates (current and date of event), amount requested, names of students attending, signature of faculty representative, estimated total cost per student, and an account number to be reimbursed by the Society when approval is complete. Payments cannot be made to students or other individuals unless special arrangements have been made with the Student Development Fund Committee.
In compliance with USI Travel regulations, additional forms must be filled out before trips are made with USI students - a Travel Request with the Travel Office and a Field Trip Report with the Purchasing Office.
Please keep in mind that the Fund is for financial assistance and administered by Committee approval. Faculty sponsors are urged to address all expenses when planning activities. Because of demand, requests may not be honored in all cases or at a level high enough to preclude the need for seeking support from additional sources.
