Program Admission

The Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program allows students to apply for the program and begin classes in any semester. Prospective students should submit all application materials at least one month prior to the entry date sought.

Application Materials

The following materials must be submitted to the Graduate Studies Office:

  • A completed¬†USI Application for Graduate Study, which can be submitted electronically or by mail
  • Non-refundable USI application fee of $40
  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended
  • International students may be required to provide¬†additional materials

In addition to the regular requirements for admission to graduate study at USI, admission to the program requires the following (submit materials to the director of the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program):

  • A resume
  • A written statement of interest describing the importance of a MALS degree to the candidate's personal, intellectual, or career development (500 words or less)
  • Recommendations by three individuals who know the candidate well
  • An interview with MALS director

Because of the interdisciplinary, nontraditional nature of the program, the GRE exams are not required.

An interview will be arranged after all other materials are on file.
