Bachelor of Professional Studies

Applied Studies Major - Students complete the BPS Core (21 hours) and add 12 hours from one of five concentrations.

Each Applied Studies major will select a 12 credit hour academic concentration in order to gain an area of academic specialization. The options for these concentrations are:

Public Service 

Public Service is a brand new approach to building capacity for leadership in public service agencies, including charitable organizations, law enforcement, and government entities. Required courses build communication skills, develop an understanding of political and social processes at work in the public sector, and increase leadership and advocacy skills.

Cybersecurity 

This concentration is designed for a student with career experience and goals in safeguarding information systems within business and/or governmental organizations.

Crime and Justice

This concentration is designed for the adult learner with career experience and goals in law enforcement, corrections, or other professions related to public safety.

Organizational Leadership 

This concentration builds skills and knowledge in communications and the organizational dynamics of business, industrial and manufacturing organizations.

Early Childhood Education

This concentration builds upon career experience in the child care and pre-school setting and builds leadership, organizational skills and knowledge in early childhood education. This program does not lead to a teaching license.

Individual Studies Concentration 

The Individual Studies major allows BPS students to develop a course of studies that meets unique educational and career goals. Students who choose this major work with the program advisor to create a list of USI courses that fulfills these goals and meets all remaining graduation requirements. This proposed plan of study is reviewed by the BPS program advisor for approval.
