Education Living Learning Community

Are you majoring in Elementary, Early Childhood, or Special Education? Come live and learn with other students who want to be the teachers someday. When you live in this LLC, you’ll get your first taste of working with students during your very first year in college! Your LLC will participate in a mentoring program, interact with USI faculty, and visit with area teachers to learn more about careers in education.

LLC Classes: 

Fall Semester:

  • UNIV 101: First Year Experience (Core 39 class, Foundations)
  • CMST 101: Public Speaking (Core 39 class, Foundations)

Spring Semester:

  • EDUC 203: Introduction to Children's Literature (major)
  • (Pre-Elementary Education majors only) EDUC 206: Introduction to Exceptionalities (major)

LLC Signature Experiences:

Your LLC will participate in an active mentor program throughout your first year. The Peer Mentoring Program engages in a variety of activities and programs with other students and USI faculty, so you'll find plenty of support AND fun! Are you ready to start working with kids right away? Your LLC will get to go tutor elementary school kids in a local after school program. Your LLC will also meet with teachers and USI faculty to get a jump start on your career!

How do I apply? 

  1. Apply for Housing, housing applications are available on December 2 on myUSI.
  2. Click on the red housing icon on the left and follow the instructions.
  3. After you've completed the main housing application, you will see a link to a special LLC application. You must complete the LLC application IN ADDITION to the main housing application. On the LLC application, you can rank which LLCs you're interested in. 
  4. That's it! :) You'll hear back from us before you come for orientation! We begin processing LLC applications in January!
