USI students take first place at Ball State Information Systems competition

April 27, 2017

A team of Computer Information Systems and Computer Science majors from the University of Southern Indiana's Romain College of Business was named overall champion in the sixth annual Information Systems Project and Case Competition. The event was hosted by the Miller College of Business at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. This is the third year teams from USI have entered the competition, and they received the highest number of awards.

The competition allows students majoring in a technology discipline to utilize their skills by solving a live case analysis, as well as showcasing senior projects and projects completed earlier in their undergraduate careers. The winning USI team published Wesselman Park's Android app with numerous features, such as program animals, an interactive trail map, events, a turtle tracker, a scavenger hunt, and Ask A Naturalist. In addition to taking overall champion, they won best project and placed third in the case competition. The team included Lexi King, Tracy Leonard, Andrew McGuire, Jessica Nicolet, and Brandon Woods.

Another USI team entered their senior project, HResonance, a cloud-based business software enabling strategic management of incentive plans. Team members included Ben Brown, Anthony Cox, Noah Estel, Luis Macias, and Joel Young. Both teams completed their projects within 100 days.

Faculty advisors to the teams are Dr. Srishti Srivastava and Dr. Dinko Bacic. Read about USI teams' achievements in 2015 and 2016. Other universities competing included Ball State, University of Toledo, Milliken University, Vincennes University, Ohio University, University of Indianapolis, University of Akron, Purdue University Northwest, and Grand Valley State.
