Fiction writer and poet, Joe Wilkins, to present work at Griffin Center

October 18, 2019

The University of Southern Indiana will host fiction writer and poet, Joe Wilkins, as a part of the fall 2019 Southern Indiana Reading Series at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, October 24 at the Griffin Center located on the USI campus. The event, which will feature a reading and reception for the author, is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and for signing.

Wilkins was born and raised north of the Bull Mountains, out on the Big Dry of eastern Montana. His debut novel, Fall Back Down When I Die, speaks to the community, struggle, violence, and care Joe knew growing up in the rural West, and his memoir, The Mountain and the Fathers, captures the lives of boys and men in that desolate country, a place that shapes the people who live there and rarely lets them go. Wilkins is also the author of three poetry collections, most recently When We Were Birds, winner of the 2017 Oregon Book Award in Poetry. Wilkins now lives with his family in the foothills of the Coast Range of western Oregon, where he directs the creative program at Linfield College.

The Southern Indiana Reading Series is made possible by contributions and support from the USI Society for Arts & Humanities, the USI Foundation, the College of Liberal Arts, and the Department of English.
