The Tri-State Industrial Safety Council (TSISC), a partner of University of Southern Indiana Outreach and Engagement, awarded 15 $1,000 scholarships to current TSISC badge holders or their dependents. An award dinner for the scholarship recipients was held on June 2, 2016.
“This scholarship was created to assist holders of a current TSISC safety badge or their spouses, children or step-children planning to attend or currently enrolled in accredited two- or four-year colleges, universities, graduate schools or vocational/technical schools,” said Charmaine McDowell, director of Corporate Partnerships.
TSISC, a member of the Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils (ARSC), was created as a nonprofit organization in 2003 to address the need for consistent and cost effective training of contract workers in local industry (Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois). Future and current badge holders attend courses held at USI and in the community to complete and refresh safety training requirements. The result is a properly trained and safe contractor workforce.
Through the TSISC, contract employees working at member sites complete a safety orientation—ARSC Basic Orientation Plus™ and Basic Orientation Plus Refresher™ -and earn an identification badge by successfully passing a test. In 2014-2015, USI trained over 6,000 contractors in safety training courses.
