On August 10, 2017, faculty and staff from the University of Southern Indiana, University of Evansville and Ivy Tech Community College boarded a charter bus to visit several businesses in the area. Day on the Bus is an annual event that gives participants an opportunity to learn about regional workforce trends, while providing an opportunity to connect with each other and the community. The theme for this year’s event focused on Evansville companies that have a global presence.
“I was impressed by the passion companies have for their community,” said Ryan Ross, USI Foundation. “Every business wants to succeed, but they want to grow with the help of current USI students and graduates through internships and full-time positions. Continued collaboration between the University and local business is crucial on meeting the demands of the workforce.”
In addition to conversations between each other, participants were given access to information that will be beneficial to their students. Participants spoke with human resource professionals at each location to gain insight as to what skills and qualifications they look for when hiring recent graduates.
Stops for the day featured Accuride, Traylor Brothers and Berry Global. At each stop, participants learned how each company has grown to be successful and become bigger than just the United States. Each company spoke about how they could use individual talent to take the company to the next level.
