Borsa Finance awarded first place in Eagle Innovation's BIZCOM

November 16, 2018

Eagle Innovation
hosted its final round of BIZCOM, a business model competition, on Friday, November 2 in the University of Southern Indiana Griffin Center. Teams who advanced to the finals included Little Ducklings Academy, Nature Nodes, Heliponix, Borsa Finance and Fountain Wellness.

During the final round, each team completed a five minute pitch followed by fifteen minutes of Q&A to a panel of subject matter experts who consisted of:

  • Mike Thissen – Founder of the Mike Thissen Group which provides advisory services for Community, Economic and Workforce Development.
  • Ellen Horan – President of Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville.
  • Eric Steele – Entrepreneur in Residence for Elevate Ventures Southwest.
  • Grant Glackman – Advisor for Southwest Indiana Small Business Development Center and retired partner at BKD.

Following the pitches, the judges deliberated to select Little Ducklings Academy as the third-place winner, Heliponix as the second-place winner and Borsa Finance as the first-place winner. Borsa Finance is a platform which consolidates earnings calls for publicly traded companies to ease the burden of hunting down this important tool for investors.

Borsa Finance founder, Hadi Yousef, worked alongside USI student representative and theater major, Colin Culiver.

“He’s one of the most outgoing people I’ve ever met. His business acumen as well as his understanding of communication made working with him a breeze,” said Yousef. “What I’m most proud of is how hard and efficiently we worked all while having a lot of fun.”

In preparation for BIZCOM finals, knowing how much $15,000 in cash and prizes would further a technical project like Borsa Finance, Hadi and Colin’s goal was to effectively communicate the true value Borsa Finance brings to investors.

Hadi and Colin pitch to judges“Imagine a world without Spotify or Apple Music where you have to go to each individual artist’s website to listen to their music,” said Yousef. “This is the current state of public company earnings calls. It turns out that people hate having to go to each individual investor relations website in order to listen to an earnings call. Our users love how simple and easy-to-use Borsa is. Above all, our users love how much time it saves them. They are able to listen to more earnings calls which allows them to stay informed about more companies because Borsa has removed the friction from the earnings call listening experience.”

After winning Eagle Innovation’s APPCOM, an application competition, earlier this year and now BIZCOM, Hadi plans to continue to invest in Borsa Finance to increase the number of companies offered on the platform, while also adding new features his users have been anxiously excited for.
