Fitness Assessment Test

Majors in the Department of Kinesiology and Sport are required to participate in physical fitness testing each year.

The test consists of six components:

  • a 1.5 mile run
  • sit and reach
  • BMI
  • grip strength
  • push ups
  • crunches

Students are required to test in all six components and pass three of the six at the 50th percentile.

50th percentile standards

  • BMI <=24.5 both genders
  • BIA <= 20 Male and 33 Female
  • Hand grip >= 43 Male and 26 Female
  • Sit and reach >= 11 Male and 12 Female
  • Push-up >=24 Male and 16 Female (Modified Push-up for Female)
  • Curl-up >27 Male and 27 Female
  • 1.5 mile <= 738 secs Male and 895 Female

Students who do not pass three of the six tests choose one of the following options:

Work with a personal trainer from the fitness center with progress supervised by a faculty advisor

Audit a prescribed physical activity class if there is space with progress supervised by a faculty advisor. (Students are required to strengthen the area(s) of deficiency and re-test the following semester).

A student WILL NOT be permitted to pre-register for classes if they do not test in all six components. A "HOLD" will be placed on their pre-registration process. Students enrolled in student teaching or practicum are exempt from fitness testing. For more information, please follow the links below.
