Are principals who hire USI teacher candidates satisfied with USI’s teacher preparation programs?

The Indiana Department of Education surveys principals of teachers who are renewing their initial teaching license and reports the survey results to the institution identified by the teacher as the institution that provided their training.

Are program completers able to meet Indiana licensing requirements?

Teacher candidates seeking an Indiana instructional license are required to pass the pedagogy assessment that matches the grade level in which they are planning to teach and the appropriate content area assessment.   The number of assessments vary from two exams to five exams.  Information about the current licensure test requirements are available at the Pearson Education website:  http://www.in.nesinc.com/

Are program completers hired for teaching positions?

USI Teacher Education program completers have a high employment rate in all grade levels and content areas. The overall employment rates for the academic year 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016 are 64%, 77%, and 82% respectively.  Review Licensure/Employment Rates here.

What is the average grade point average of teacher education program completers?

The Teacher Education Department requires a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher for admission to teacher education. Teacher candidates must maintain the 2.75 GPA for graduation. Teacher candidates graduated in 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-2015 academic years earned a 3.54 mean GPA. Review the Completion Grade Point Averages here.

What is the student loan defaults rate for USI?

For the fiscal year 2014, the institutional student loan default rate was 6.8%.
