Chillers commits to USI
The University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball team announced that junior college transfer Clarence Chillers (Chicago, Illinois), a 6’6” forward, has committed to USI for the 2002-03 season. Chillers is the seventh player to sign with USI Head Coach Rick Herdes for the upcoming year.
As a sophomore in 2000-01, Chillers was the Pensacola Junior College Defensive Player of the Year and honorable mention All-Panhandle Conference after averaging 10.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.0 assists, and 50.7 percent from the field. Chillers help lead PJC to a 41-18 record during his two-year tenure.
PJC Head Coach Paul Swanson said, “Clarence is a relentless competitor and a outstanding defender. He is an excellent rebounder and a terrific scorer, but most importantly, he is a team player.”
“I am every excited about Clarence’s talents and ability to play at the tempo we like,” said Herdes. “He is a very good scorer from anywhere on the floor and also has the ability to defend both inside and out.”
Chillers joins newcomers — 6’4” senior guard/forward Alan Goff 6’9” junior forward/center Sam Beyer 6’8” junior center/forward Reque Newsome 6’6” sophomore forward Dennis Coutee 6’4” freshman guard/forward Carroll Coffman and 6’1” freshman guard Jed Davis — for the 2002-03 season.
