Holbrook and Austin commit to USI
The University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball team announced the signing of 6’9” junior forward Clinton “Randy” Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) and 6’3 junior guard Aaron Austin (Chicago Heights, Illinois) for the 2003-04 season.
Holbrook transfers to USI from Odessa College in Odessa, Texas. He was member of the OC teams that won conference and regional championships in 2001.
As a sophomore at Odessa in 2001-02, Holbrook averaged 10 points and eight rebounds per contest and ranked in the top 10 for NJCAA forwards. He started his collegiate career at Odessa by averaging 7.0 points and 4.8 rebounds as a freshman.
At Kirkwood High School, Holbrook was the KHS Player of the Year as a senior and first team All-Conference three straight seasons.
Austin transfers to USI from Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Florida, where he was a teammate of current USI Eagle Reque Newsome for two years. He averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds a contest in 2000-01 and 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in 2001-02.
Prior to attending CFCC, Austin played for Bloom Township High School in Chicago, Illinois. He was All-Conference, All-Area, and a member of the Illinois Top 50 at BTHS.
“Holbrook gives us a dominating presence on the inside,” said USI head coach Rick Herdes. “The addition of Holbrook to John Oden, Billy Harris, and Reque Newsome gives USI one of the strongest frontlines in the GLVC.
“Aaron (Austin) has been working all summer to get himself ready to play this fall,” continued Herdes. “He will be one of the strongest defensive players I’ve seen.”
The Eagles will start practice for the 2003-04 season Wednesday, October 15, with the first exhibition game Saturday, November 1, at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
