USI opens 2003-04 home schedule with exhibition game Friday evening
The University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team will open the 2003-04 home schedule at the Physical Activities Center with an exhibition game against the Bradley Stars Friday, November 14. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles are looking to rebound from a 99-76 exhibition road loss to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on November 1. USI finished 2002-03 as a NCAA Division II Sweet 16 team and a 25-7 overall record.
The Eagles enter Friday nightís match-up with the Bradley Stars without senior forward/center John Oden (St. Louis, Missouri), who had 20 points in the loss to UWM. Oden is out two-to-three weeks with a broken foot.
Oden was followed in the loss by junior guard Aaron Austin (Chicago Heights, Illinois) with 12 points and eight rebounds, and senior guard Avery Queen (Moreno Valley, California) with 11 points and five assists.
To get back on track, the Eagles will have to get better production from the offense and defense. USI turned the ball over 29 times in the opening exhibition loss and allowed UWM to shoot 54.8 percent from the field in the second half, 50 percent for the game.
The Bradley Stars come to Evansville after suffering a 90-65 loss to Marian College (Indiana) on November 5. So far this fall, the Stars have scrimmaged or played exhibition games with Indiana University Southeast, Grace College, St. Francis University (Illinois), and Cornerstone University.
The Bradley Stars will feature 1996 MAC All-Conference guard La Salle Thompson (Ball State University). Thompson, who has played professionally in Europe since 2000, holds the Ball State record for three-point field goals in a game and a season.
USI will open the 2003-04 regular season schedule Saturday, November 22, when they host Lincoln University for a 7 p.m. contest.
