USI menís basketball team to host Oakland City Tuesday evening

The University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team will continue its non-conference schedule when it hosts Oakland City University Tuesday, November 25, at the Physical Activities Center. Game time is 7:30 p.m., following the USI-OCU womenís game at 5:15 p.m.

The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 103-73 season-opening victory over Lincoln University Saturday night. Senior forward Billy Harris (Carbondale, Illinois) led the Screaming Eagles with a double-double that included a game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds.

Harris was followed by senior guard Joe Gordon (Palm Bay, Florida), who had 19 points.

The victory marked the 18th straight year that USI has started the season with a win and was the 40th straight win when going over the century mark.

The Mighty Oaks are off to a 1-3 record after going 0-2 in Bellarmine Universityís Joe Reibel Tip-Off Tournament over the weekend. OCU lost to Bellarmine, 85-78, to open the tournament and stumbled to Spalding University, 70-66, in the consolation game.

The Mighty Oaks started the year with a 68-50 victory over Ohio Valley College, but dropped an 81-64 decision to the University of Alabama-Huntsville at home.

Despite the 1-3 record, OCU does have its offensive threat with three players averaging in double figures. Senior guard Josh Pearson leads the way for OCU with 17.0 ppg, while senior guard Clint Weddle and junior forward Cliff Weyer are averaging 16.0 ppg and 13.5 ppg, respectively.

Following Tuesdayís contest the Eagles will begin preparing for the beginning of the GLVC schedule over the weekend. USI will travel to Bellarmine University for a 7 p.m. (CT) match-up Saturday, November 29, in Louisville, Kentucky, and to Kentucky Wesleyan College Monday, December 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The USI menís basketball Thanksgiving week practice schedule is Monday, 1:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, 8 p.m.-10 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
