Hall signs national letter of intent
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball team announced the signing of sophomore guard Melvin Hall (Evansville, Indiana) to a national letter of intent for the 2005-06 season. Hall is the first player to sign with USI and Head Coach Rick Herdes in the early signing period.
Hall has helped lead John A. Logan Junior College to a 3-1 record this season, averaging 13.2 ppg and connecting on nine three-point field goals. Tuesday evening, Hall scored 22 points and hit six three-point field goals in the Volunteer’s overtime victory over ninth-ranked Vincennes University.
In his freshman season, Hall was the GRAC Freshman of the Year after averaging 20 ppg and making 69 three-point field goals. John A. Logan was 17-14 in 2003-04.
Prior to attending John A. Logan, Hall was an Associated Press All-State performer and the 2002-03 Courier & Press Player of the Year at Harrison High School in Evansville. He averaged 21 ppg and shot 85 percent from the line as a senior.
“We are very proud to have a player of Melvin’s caliber join our program,” said Herdes. “Melvin will be the leading candidate to replace Cris Brunson next season at the shooting guard position. He is a pure scorer with tremendous range on his jump shot.”
The Screaming Eagles, who were the 2004 NCAA Division II Tournament finalist last spring, finish the 2004-05 exhibition season at the University of Cincinnati Saturday. Game time is 6:05 p.m. (CT).
