EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball takes to the road in the GLVC for the first time this season when its plays at Lewis University Thursday and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday. Game time Thursday in Romeoville, Illinois, is 7:30 p.m., while tip-off in Edwardsville, Illinois, is 3 p.m.

The Screaming Eagles (3-1, 2-0 GLVC) got back on track last week with a pair of GLVC victories to start the conference schedule, defeating the University of Indianapolis, 87-66, and Saint Joseph’s College, 95-87. Senior guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) and senior center Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) led the Eagles in scoring with 15.0 ppg, while junior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) averaged a double with 12.5 ppg and 10.5 rpg.

After four games, Thompson leads the Eagles with 15.3 ppg and 10.8 rpg.

USI will be looking for a little payback when it travels to Romeoville on Thursday to play the Flyers, who won both regular season games last year and were able to host the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional. Lewis (2-2, 0-2 GLVC) enters this week’s action having lost its last two games after starting the year with back-to-back wins.

The Flyers are under new management for the first time in 13 seasons with new Head Coach Kyle Green. Green took control of Lewis’ men’s program after spending the 2003-04 season at the University of Marquette.

The new look Flyers are led after four games by senior guard Anthony Scala, who is averaging 12.5 ppg, and senior guard/forward Steve Turner, who is averaging 12.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg.

USI leads the all-time series with Lewis, 28-21, and has won five of the last nine meeting since 2000.

The Eagles will finish the road trip by traveling to SIUE (3-2, 1-0 GLVC) to play the Cougars. SIUE has won its last two games after going 1-2 to start the season and will play the University of Missouri-St. Louis prior to playing the Eagles on Saturday.

The Cougars are led this season by senior forward Tim Bauersachs, who is averaging 14.6 ppg, and junior forward Justin Ward, who is averaging 14.2 ppg.

USI took both regular season games from SIUE last season and leads the all-time series 40-15. The Eagles also have won the last nine since 2000.
