Eagles are perfect at home in 2004-05

EVANSVILLE, Ind. Ė The 16th-ranked University of Southern Indiana menís basketball team concluded a perfect 2004-05 home schedule with an 89-54 victory over Lewis University Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 18-4 overall and 14-2 in the GLVC, while Lewis falls to 9-14 overall, 4-12 GLVC.
By going 14-0 at the PAC in 2004-05, the Screaming Eagles have completed a perfect regular season home schedule for the first time since 1999-2000. USI also has won 23 straight at the PAC, dating back to last season.
The Eagles started their ninth straight win with a 9-0 run and never looked back. USI led by as many as 19 points, 35-16, and went into the locker room with a 43-27 margin at intermission.
In the second half, USI dominated the Flyers and extended the lead to 32 points, 72-40, with 8:47 to play. The Eaglesí biggest lead of the game, 89-50, came with 1:16 to play.
For the game, USI shot 60.8 percent from the field (31-51) and sank a season-best 16 three-point field goals.
Senior forward/center Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) made his final regular season appearance at the PAC a memorable one, scoring 21 points and hitting a career-high three three-point field goals. Senior guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana) followed Holbrook with 18 points, hitting four long-range bombs, and sophomore forward Goeff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana) dropped in 15 points on five three-point field goals.
Junior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) added 10 points to round out the double-figure scorers.
USI out-rebounded the Flyers, 34-20. Van Winkle, Thompson and senior center Reque Newsome (St. Petersburg, Florida) led the way with five rebounds each.
The Eagles will play their last four regular season games on the road, beginning February 17 at Quincy University. Game time is 7:30 p.m. USI will return to action in Evansville in the GLVC Tournament, March 3-6, at Roberts Stadium to be the post-season.
