Holbrook named first team All-GLVC
USI has four named honorable mention
EVANSVILLE, Ind. Ė University of Southern Indiana menís basketball senior forward/center Randy Holbrook (St. Louis, Missouri) was named to the All-GLVC first team by a vote of the league coaches. The All-GLVC awards were announced Thursday at the menís conference basketball tournament.
Holbrook, who was named GLVC Player of the Week twice and the Division II Bulletin Player of the Month for January, leads the Screaming Eagles and ranks 10th in the GLVC in scoring with 15.9 ppg. He also ranks second on the team and eighth in the league in rebounding with 6.4 rpg.
Also receiving honorable mention honors for the Eagles was senior guard Cris Brunson (Evansville, Indiana), junior guard David Bryant (Louisville, Indiana), junior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida), and sophomore forward Goeff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana).
Brunson, who has been honorable mention three times for USI, ranks fourth all-time in scoring for the Eagles with 1,511 career points and ranks third on the team in 2004-05 with 11.4 ppg. He has averaged 14.8 ppg and has hit 28 three-point field goals in USIís 13-game winning streak.
Thompson has been one of the biggest reasons for USIís success on the boards this season, averaging a team-best 9.5 rpg. The 9.5 rpg also ranks third in the GLVC. He also leads the team with 11 double-doubles and has reached double-figures in rebounds 14 times this season.
Van Winkle has led the Eagles for a second straight year in three-point field goals made with 64 so far this season. He ranks fourth on the team with 9.6 ppg and is averaging a career-high 4.3 rpg.
Bryant may be one of the best players in the GLVC off the bench. After missing four-games with a knee injury, he has become USIís top guard off the bench and has averaged 8.1 ppg and 3.3 assists per game.
USI is ranked fourth nationally and second in the Great Lakes Region with a record of 23-4 overall. The Eagles also finished the GLVC schedule with an 18-2 conference mark.
