Thompson named GLVC Player of the Week
– University of Southern Indiana senior forward Chris Thompson
(Starke, Florida) was named the GLVC Player of the Week after leading the Screaming Eagles to three victories last week, including a pair of conference road wins.
Thompson began last week at the Physical Activities Center with an 18-point, nine-rebound performance in the 114-56 non-conference victory over Oakland City University.
In GLVC action, Thompson jump started the USI offense on the road with a perfect nine-for-nine shooting performance in the 95-76 triumph at Bellarmine University. He finished the contest with a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds.
The Physical Education major finished the week with his seventh double-double of the year in USI's 75-56 victory at Northern Kentucky University. He once again posted game-highs with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles.
For the week, Thompson averaged 19 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, one steal, and 0.7 blocks per game. He also shot a blistering 81.8 percent from the field (18-22), 83.3 percent from the charity stripe (20-24), and 50 percent from beyond the three-point arc (1-2).
The Player of the Week award is the second of the year for Thompson, who also was named the Division II Bulletin Player of the Month in November. USI junior guard Melvin Hall
(Evansville, Indiana) also has been named the GLVC Player of the Week this season.
Thompson and the Eagles resume GLVC play Thursday when they begin a two-game homestand by hosting Quincy University at 7:30 p.m.
