Thompson named GLVC Player of Week
USI senior earns award for third time this year
– University of Southern Indiana senior forward Chris Thompson
(Starke, Florida) was named the GLVC Player of the Week for his efforts in the Screaming Eagles' road victories over Drury University and Rockhurst University last week. The honor was the third of the year for Thompson.
Thompson began the week with his ninth double-double of the year in the 69-65 victory at Drury. He had a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds, while hitting nine-of-12 from the field and a perfect eight-of-eight from the charity stripe.
Thompson helped the Eagles complete the road sweep by scoring 16 points and grabbing a game-high eight rebounds in the 87-64 win at Rockhurst. He also hit seven-of-10 from the field and had a pair of steals.
For the week, Thompson averaged 21 points, nine rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. He also shot a blistering 72.7 percent from the field (16-22), 90 percent from the free-throw line (9-10), and was a perfect one-of-one from beyond the three-point arc.
In addition to his three Player of the Week awards, Thompson also was named the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic Most Outstanding Player and the Division II Bulletin Player of the Month for November.
USI resumes GLVC action Thursday when it hosts the University of Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m.
