Thompson honored for fourth time by the GLVC
– University of Southern Indiana men's basketball senior forward Chris Thompson (Starke, Florida) was named the GLVC Player of the Week for the fourth time this year and the third time in January. The fourth Player of the Week award ties Thompson with former USI All-American and GLVC Player of the Year Chad Gilbert for the most in a single season.
Thompson led the Screaming Eagles to a sweep of their GLVC homestand, including a 31-point victory over 3rd-ranked Saint Joseph's College last Saturday.
The Physical Education major began the week with his 10th double-double of the year, posting a game-high 25 points and 15 rebounds in the 95-70 victory over the University of Indianapolis. He was 10-of-15 from the field and a perfect four-of-four from the charity striped.
In the 98-67 victory over Saint Joseph's, Thompson recorded his 11th double-double of the year by tying teammate Danny Gibson with a game-high 22 points and grabbing a game-best 12 rebounds. He dropped in seven-of-10 shots from the field and eight-of-nine from the line.
For the week, Thompson averaged 23.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game. He also continued to have the hot hand, shooting 68.0 percent from the field (17-25) and 92.3 percent from the line (12-13).
USI resumes practice Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. before going on the road to play Kentucky Wesleyan College at the Sportcenter in Owensboro, Kentucky, Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
