Thompson named Player of Month for second time
First USI player to earn the award twice in a season
– For the second time this season, University of Southern Indiana senior forward Chris Thompson
(Starke, Indiana) has been named the Division II Bulletin Player of the Month for January. He becomes the first USI men's basketball player to win the award twice in a season.
Thompson led the Screaming Eagles to a 6-1 record and was named the GLVC Player of the Week three times in the month of January. He averaged 21.1 points and 9.4 rebounds in the seven games, while shooting 66.2 percent from the field (51-77), 57.1 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 84.0 percent from the charity stripe (42-50). The senior forward also had five double-doubles in the seven games.
"Chris (Thompson) earns and deserves every award he is given," said USI Head Coach Rick Herdes
. "It is a privilege to coach someone who is not only the best player on the team, but the hardest worker. Chris' work ethic is an example for his teammates to rally around and duplicate"
For the season, Thompson leads USI and the GLVC with 19.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He also ranks nationally in field goal percentage (7th), rebounding (15th), and scoring (45th).
The Eagles resume action Thursday when they begin a two-game homestand by hosting Drury University at the Physical Activities Center. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
